Phil Ross

Phil recently took up a Fisheries Analyst position at Fisheries New Zealand where his work is focused on shellfish species, and empowering mana whenua and local communities to implement local-scale fisheries and environmental management. Prior to his shift to FNZ, Phil had spent the last 10 years working as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Waikato, where his research was focused on the history, ecology and management of the toheroa. He also worked on a variety of other projects, including leading research and monitoring of the Rena shipwreck (and other oil spill responses), the implementation of marine protected areas, and contributing to the development of new aquaculture approaches and species.
